FAQ
Why did KDP reject my paperback PDF?
Usually because text or page numbers sit too close to an edge or the spine (“content outside margins”), the page size doesn't match the trim size you chose, the page count is odd, or fonts aren't embedded. The free check shows exactly which pages.
What gutter does my page count need?
24–150 pages: 0.375 in · 151–300: 0.5 in · 301–500: 0.625 in · 501–700: 0.75 in · 701–828: 0.875 in. Top, bottom and outside margins need at least 0.25 in without bleed.
Will fixing change my page numbers?
Pagination never changes; text is scaled uniformly (default keeps ≥ 0.08″ clearance inside KDP's margins). Every page stays where it is; one blank page is added at the end only if your page count is odd.
What is the margin buffer, Safe or Tight?
Safe (the default) keeps your text at least 0.08 in inside KDP's margin lines, so it doesn't sit right on the dashed line in KDP's previewer. Tight keeps 0.03 in and shrinks the text slightly less. The fix plan shows the scale for the option you pick.
Do my files get uploaded?
Files are processed in your browser; your manuscript is never uploaded to our servers. Checking, fixing and cover building all run in your browser; only the payment goes through our server and Stripe.

Can you fix fonts that aren't embedded?
No. The font file isn't inside the PDF, so it can't be added afterwards. Re-export with fonts embedded (Word: PDF/A option; Canva: “PDF Print”). The check tells you which fonts are missing.
